TW: Chemical w-rfare, Ab-rtion
Urgent Ask to evacuate Nara, a 🍉 disabled woman with MS who also has pancreatic cancer due to chemical w-rfare.
Support by financially contributing to her @FedUp4Palestine vetted funhnd-raizer (that I personally vetted): givebutter.com/NaraMedicalAid
+ resharing/ reposting this post!
I, Sky Cubacub- a Fed up 4 Palestine team member, have been in direct contact with Nara to get to know her and her story more over the past few days. We have become fast friends due to so many overlapping symptoms of our disabilities. Nara’s story caught my eye because I have post-viral ME/CFS which many times is a precursor to MS. I really want my disability community to show up for her to get this campaign funded that is so close to my heart so that she can continue medical treatment.
We have chatted extensively! During our chats, I found out from Nara that she had not previously had health issues until she was exposed in the white phosphorus attack in 2008. The long lasting damage and effects of phosphorus continue to compound and become more and more disabling to this day, even after 16 years.
Here is her story in her own words (edited for clarity):
“Hi I'm Nara,
I'm a cancer and multiple sclerosis patient. I need treatment, examinations, and follow-up on a regular basis, but the hospitals in which I used to follow up were bombed and the other one was turned into military barracks. All I need now is to leave Gaza for treatment, preserve my life, and live with my family in peace.
We're a family of 4, including my 12 and 7 year old children.
I had been diagnosed with a tumor in the pancreas as a result of inhaling phosphorus in a previous war. A couple years after being exposed to phosphorus, I became pregnant, and the fetus was pressing on the tumor, which drew the doctor’s attention to the cancer. My fetus was emergency aborted, and the spleen, 80% of the pancreas, and part of the small intestine were removed. I complained every now and then of a lot of pain as a result of the removal of part of the pancreas. I was having follow up care in the Turkish Friendship Hospital for hematology and tumors. But since the beginning of October, I have not been able to follow up because the hospital has turned into a military barracks.
The remaining part is talking about multiple sclerosis:
In 2018, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I had many complications, such as inflammation of the seventh nerve in the eye, the inability to walk with balance, movement with difficulty, and many symptoms. I was then required to take 12 injections every month and many medications and vitamins. I was following up at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, but unfortunately the hospital was out of service due to the war. So for a long time I have not received any injections. MS is truly difficult and it controls my life completely, and the attacks occur in many and varied ways.”
A note about her breathing apparatus:
Because people in displacement have to wait in long queues and pay to use the bathroom, Nara had started to restrict her water intake because of a UTI she never has been able to heal from. This has created a problem with raised levels of potassium, so doctors have placed her on oxygen for fear of the potassium affecting her heart.
Goals
she needs at least $15,000 to evacuate
2 adults at $5,000 each
2 children at $2,500 each
this price is subject to increase due to the cost of registration for evacuation continuing to go up
The other money will go to the cost of treatment and living costs.
Nara chooses to stay anonymous because she has had to mask her disabilities so much that only her family knows about her MS and Cancer, so we have not linked her instagram, but we are in direct contact with her and can verify that she is who she says she is! Because of this, she cannot promote her own fundraiser, so it is our job to collectively do it for her!
[Image Description: a digital illustration by @k8deciccio of Nara, a Pal-eh-stienian woman wearing a black hijab/outfit with purple highlights. She has a breathing apparatus that is bulbous that goes in her nose. Text Reads: Help Narawith Cancer and MS Treatment, She Must Evacuate with her family of 4. $30k goal givebutter.com/NaraMedicalAid . There is a QR code in the bottom right corner that goes to her support link. The @FedUp4Palestine logo is in the top left corner.]

Is "safe sex" even real? Never done it so idk but you mentioned risk profiles once. I feel like demographically I've got a higher risk profile and the anxiety about that really prevents me from going and trying anything. Do you think that's overly anxious in a negative way?
"safe sex" is a really misleading and binary term. There is never any guarantee of safety in anything we do. Every choice we make comes with risks. Hell, choosing not to connect with other people sexually (if you have any desire to) does ITSELF come with its own risks and costs over time.
The chase after perfect, guranteed safety will only lead to us feeling powerless and afraid, because it is an impossibility. All that we can do is inform ourselves of the risks, mitigate the risks we are the most concerned about and that affect others, and then knowingly accept what risks we still face as the cost of leading a full, enjoyable life.
When we inform ourselves about risk mitigation, we learn there are certain steps that we should probably take to protect ourselves and others if we are engaging in behavior that carries risk. If you're having sex with a complete stranger, it's probably smart to use a condom. If you have sex regularly you might want an HPV vaccine or to be on PreP to prevent HIV transmission. When you meet up with people you should get tested for COVID. You should get vaccinated against COVID. If you want to get suspended in rope from the ceiling don't use a hardware store $3 carabeener, get the good shit from the rock-climbing supply store. Things like that.
But even if you use a condom, you might get herpes or HPV or crabs or a yeast infection. Even if you never have sex, you might already have herpes or HPV or crabs or a yeast infection. I've had several of those things, including some of the "scarier" sounding ones, and they're really not that big a deal. They're just a thing that happens in life. Most people have them. You pop a Valtrex when you have symptoms, you shove a suppostiory up your vulva when it itches, you sleep without underwear on, you communicate with partners, you move on with your life.
Sure, I do what I can to avoid the risks I am most concerned about. I take PreP right now because not getting HIV would be preferable to me. But I could still live if I got it. I am informed about the realities of living with HIV today, which makes that fear more manageable. It is easier for me to make carefully considered and yet realistic decisions surrounding my risk profile because I can confront the realities that scare me and learn more about them.
The body is not separable form its environment. We are connected to our surroundings and the people around us, and our bodies get sick, catch viruses, grow old, get messy, and die inevitably and return to the earth. With our one life, we each have to choose what is most important to us and what potential costs we can stand. But with each year that passes, a cost to our bodies is already incurred, and there's nothing we can do to prevent aging and death from coming our way.
So what would you like to do while you are around? Would you like to have sex with condoms? Go on PreP? Get the HPV vaccine? Take random loads in a glory hole? Make out and dry hump with a cutie at a party and catch her cold sore? Cross the street in the dark after looking both ways? Go out dancing so late that your sleep is disrupted for the whole week? Get your heart broken? Have a great all-consuming love? Have children? Endure a torn labia while giving birth? Try psychedelics? Go on a swinger's cruise? Get a UTI from spermicide? Roleplay online instead of meeting in person? Fuck people with a strap-on?
The choice is yours. And no choice you make will be perfect or come without risk. No life is safe. Accepting loss is one of the necessary tasks of leading a life. But you can educate yourself, reflect on what you most want out of life and what you fear, and then take steps to demystefy your worst fears and mitigate the risks that loom largest to you and the people you care about.
Whatever you decide, I hope you have some fun.

i have been trying and failing to make a well-worded post about the wild increase in ageism i've been seeing from people who claim to be progressive and anti-discrimination that appropriately extracts the issue from current politics in a way that will actually let people understand what i'm talking about without it getting mistaken for some kind of apologia but this is honestly bothering me so much i don't care anymore
calling every older or elderly person who is doing things you dislike "demented" or talking about how they must have "dementia" or be "sundowning" is ageism flat out, with a nice soupçon of ableism on top
the automatic assumption that dementia is just something that 'happens' to every elderly person is ageism (and also ableism) and also a very harmful and frightening stereotype
the lack of understanding of what dementia actually is and what it looks like, as opposed to other neurodegenerative disorders and disorders that can cause cognitive decline or cognitive disruption as symptoms, is actively harmful
the people this harms are not the wealthy and privileged people who are doing the things you dislike
the people this harms are regular people who not only have to deal with an extremely youth-focused culture, widespread age-based discrimination, and widespread ableism but also the stereotype that every elderly person who doesn't speak with the clarity, diction, and humorlessness of a news anchor must be demented
the old lady who is being forced out of her home so her children can sell it and profit off the house she's lived for most of her life because they're saying she's got "dementia" and needs to be institutionalized is a victim of elder abuse enabled by this stereotype
the old man with a uti who starts having cognitive disruption caused by the infection and ends up getting misdiagnosed and foisted off into a skilled nursing facility where no one notices that the infection's reached his kidneys until he's actively septic and dying is a victim of medical malpractice enabled by this stereotype
the old lady who starts slurring her speech and having difficulty remembering isn't demented she's had a fucking stroke and needs to be taken to the hospital
if literally none of the rest of this is enough to get through to anyone please do consider that one day you too will be old and have to deal with every younger person you interact with being willing to dismiss anything you say at any time because hyper youth focused culture has convinced them that everyone over the age of 50 is a decrepit mummy about to precipitously start losing mental faculties
the sheer disdain and virulent hate i've been seeing recently as people express their feelings about The Current Politics...while using every derogatory term for elderly people they can think of....everyone needs to remember that insult reflection meme because whichever current politician you hate can't hear you saying that everyone over 70 should be forced into a rest home but your older family members sure fucking can
real true life story of someone i know:
elderly person went to the ER and got stuck in a bed in the hallway for three days because it was so overcrowded. when they went in they were completely oriented and aware, no cognitive decline of any kind, and by the time they managed to get out of there, after spending three days in pain and unable to sleep at all because they were laying in a bed, in a brightly lit and busy hallway, where people were constantly walking past and intercoms were constantly sounding overhead, the discharging nurse was trying to connect them with a social worker to help their family get them into care for their dementia because they'd gotten hospital delirium but never actually been assessed for their cognitive function so the nurse just assumed they must normally be like this
i don't think anyone here really understands how easily that even a young and healthy person being put under stressors like lack of sleep and illness can start having cognitive issues. every healthy 20-something i have ever interacted with who's told a funny story about how they barely got any sleep for a few days and then had some amusing cognitive slip, especially those who've then turned around and dismissed an older person as being "demented", are really only 30-40 years away from being that older person who's dismissed as being "demented"
once again, if you are very lucky, then someday you too will be old and having to deal with how our culture treats the elderly so it is in our best interests to start changing that culture NOW

Hey, look at this cool article it took me only ten seconds to find on Google
People should try googling sometime, you learn things
Assessing Voice Hearing in Trauma Spectrum Disorders: A Comparison of Two Measures and a Review of the Literature
Like, I learned, PTSD and DDs are considered trauma spectrum disorders
And while we're at it, while some people would tell you to embrace your voices as totally healthy, maybe get it looked at.
Tumblr media
While voice hearing can be common in the population (a very different phenomenon compared to alters in DID) it can also be caused by: [x] [x]
Schizophrenia (75% report)
Manic depression and bipolar (20-50% report in both)
Major depression (10% report)
PTSD (40% report)
Anxiety (14% report)
Children with conduct disorder and migraines (9% report)
lack of sleep, hunger, medication, drugs/alcohol, stress, infections (such as UTIs),
FUCKING BRAIN TUMOURS
While your treatment path is your own, and it's your choice how to proceed with handling whatever might be happening, get all the facts. Don't just blindly say, "yes, this is good for me!"
Because you could be fucking dying.
Personal experience under the cut, feel free to share your own
My stepfather has NF1, which means he has tumors growing on nerve tissues, including in his brain. When I was a kid his symptoms weren't as bad, and you wouldn't have known anything was wrong aside from the physical appearance of the tumors--small, visible lumps across his body. As he got older and the tumours began pressing on his brain he started hearing things.
He was given up for adoption as a child raised in a very religious orphanage. He also experienced SA during this time. I think this is why he viewed these voices as a religious experience and as such refused to seek any further help from this point on.
Eventually, his mood and emotional state began to change, he turned into a complete asshole. These days he's mean and rude, without a kind thing to say to anyone. He has no filter and says things that really hurt. Eventually I stopped talking to him, my mom divorced him, and now my sister, his bio daughter, has also stopped talking to him. He's alone with his voices and God and just waiting to die as the tumours continue to grow on his brain.
If it hadn't been for the visible tumors on his arms and neck, we probably wouldn't have known anything was wrong aside from the dizzy spells (at least until the first stroke). Having been given up for adoption, his family history was unknown.
@sophieinwonderland my stepdad would love you for your posts on voice hearing and religion. You should come to his funeral and do the eulogy on how everything he was going through was good and normal and forcing him to go to a doctor would have been like conversion therapy.

Sex ed starts far too late in a child's life, in my opinion. School systems rely too heavily on the concept that a kid's parent will pick up the slack in education on far too many areas.
Idealy I'd love to live in a world in which sex ed occurs in Grade 1 all the way through to Grade 12; each year reminding, increasing and building upon last year's content.
At the very least, children of all ages should know about consent, boundaries, hygiene, the basic anatomy and names for genetalia, the basics of lgbt+ stuff, and childrens rights and where to go if those rights are being denied.
By grade 10, I'd love for kids to be properly educated on queer identities and history, nonmonogamy, porn, sex work, masturbation, sex toys, kink, sex (inclusive of various genetalia combinations and disability inclusive,) STDs, pregnancy, abortion, protection and sexual assault. In no particular order. Grade 11 and 12 would be for revision, discussion, and Q&As. (Where I live, grade 10 is when kids can drop out which is why that's the cap)
I also think everyone should be taught about symptoms or situations that you might not talk about because you assume it's normal, or you're embarrassed, or you just didn't notice it, and what to do if you do notice it. (UTIs, STDs, intersex things, PCOS, endo, etc.)
And no, I don't mean we should be teaching kids everything about everything.
For example, teaching about kink can just be "This is the definition of kink. There are lots of diferent kinds of kink. Communication, consent and boundaries are very very important, here are some warning signs of what might be an unsafe kink environment or partner. Also, here are some relatively common kink things that can potentially be harmful (e.g. strangling) this is what you need to know to make an informed decision and to make it as safe as possible, if the time ever comes."
Teaching about sex toys can just be "These are the diferent kinds of sex toys and what they do, make sure to clean them regularly."
I think if this gets seen by more than like, 3 people, I could get a lot of heat for this but as someone who was raised in a bunch of scenarios in which this kind of education would have been almost lifesaving to me, I don't see why everyone seems to want to teach kids as little as possible. We all know that teens and young adults are learning and doing this stuff, but we all seem to want them to learn from tik tok or something. Anyway, I'm happy to elaborate on anything and I'm very interested in discussions.

Understanding Neurogenic Bladder: Impact and Management Strategies
Neurogenic bladder refers to a condition where nerve damage disrupts the normal control of the bladder. This dysfunction can cause a variety of issues, including urinary incontinence, an overactive bladder, or difficulty emptying the bladder. For those living with neurogenic bladder, daily activities can be significantly affected, but with the right strategies, many individuals can regain control and improve their quality of life.
Tumblr media
This article will explore how neurogenic bladder impacts daily living, its connection to conditions like myelomeningocele, and the available management options. We will also delve into overactive bladder (OAB), which often overlaps with neurogenic bladder dysfunction.
What Is Neurogenic Bladder?
Neurogenic bladder is a disorder caused by nerve damage affecting communication between the brain, spinal cord, and bladder muscles. Normally, the brain sends signals to the bladder to control when to contract and when to relax. When these signals are disrupted, it can result in bladder dysfunction.
There are two main types of neurogenic bladder:
Overactive Neurogenic Bladder: In this case, the bladder muscles contract too frequently or without warning, leading to urgency, frequent urination, and sometimes incontinence. This is also referred to as overactive bladder (OAB).
Underactive Neurogenic Bladder: Here, the bladder muscles fail to contract properly, making it difficult to fully empty the bladder. This can lead to urinary retention, which increases the risk of infection and discomfort.
Causes of Neurogenic Bladder
Neurogenic bladder can be caused by several neurological conditions, including:
Spinal Cord Injuries: Damage to the spinal cord interrupts the communication between the brain and the bladder.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS): MS affects the central nervous system and can lead to bladder dysfunction.
Parkinson’s Disease: Parkinson's-related neurological damage can impair bladder control.
Stroke: A stroke can disrupt the brain’s ability to send appropriate signals to the bladder.
Diabetes: Chronic diabetes can cause nerve damage, affecting bladder function.
One of the leading causes of neurogenic bladder in children is myelomeningocele, a form of spina bifida, which results in incomplete formation of the spinal cord during fetal development, causing nerve damage and bladder control issues.
How Neurogenic Bladder Affects Daily Life
Living with neurogenic bladder can pose significant challenges that affect both physical and emotional well-being. Some of the most common daily difficulties include:
Incontinence and Embarrassment: Individuals with overactive neurogenic bladder may experience urinary incontinence, often at inopportune moments. This can cause embarrassment in public or professional situations, leading some to avoid social events and experience isolation.
Frequent Urination: The constant need to urinate, sometimes as often as every 30 minutes, can be disruptive to work, school, or leisure activities. The anxiety of finding a restroom in time is a major concern for many people.
Nocturia and Sleep Disruption: Frequent nighttime urination can lead to sleep disturbances, causing fatigue and a reduced overall quality of life.
Urinary Retention and Infections: With an underactive neurogenic bladder, incomplete emptying of the bladder can lead to urinary retention, which increases the risk of infections such as urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Emotional and Psychological Effects: The constant planning and worry about bathroom access can result in anxiety and depression, making daily life even more challenging.
Managing Neurogenic Bladder and Overactive Bladder
There are various treatment options to manage the symptoms of neurogenic bladder and restore normal bladder function. The most effective treatment depends on the underlying cause and the specific type of bladder dysfunction.
1. Lifestyle and Behavioral Changes
Bladder Training: This involves creating a structured schedule for urination and gradually increasing the intervals between bathroom visits to help the bladder hold urine for longer periods.
Fluid Management: Reducing the intake of bladder irritants like caffeine, alcohol, and acidic foods can help alleviate urgency.
Pelvic Floor Exercises: Exercises like Kegels strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support bladder control and reduce episodes of incontinence.
2. Medications
Anticholinergics: These drugs relax the bladder muscles, reducing urgency and frequency of urination.
Beta-3 Adrenergic Agonists: These medications relax the bladder, allowing it to hold more urine.
Botox Injections: Botox can be injected into the bladder to reduce overactivity and prevent involuntary contractions.
3. Catheterization
For those with underactive neurogenic bladder, catheterization may be needed to fully empty the bladder and reduce the risk of infections. There are two main types of catheterization:
Intermittent Catheterization: A catheter is inserted periodically to empty the bladder.
Indwelling Catheter: A catheter remains in place for continuous drainage.
4. Surgical Options
In severe cases, surgical procedures may be necessary:
Bladder Augmentation: This surgery increases bladder capacity by adding a piece of intestine to the bladder wall.
Urinary Diversion: In extreme cases, where the bladder is non-functional, urine can be redirected through a stoma to an external pouch.
5. Electrical Stimulation
Sacral Nerve Stimulation: A small device is implanted to send electrical impulses to the sacral nerves, improving bladder function.
Tibial Nerve Stimulation: This less invasive treatment involves mild electrical impulses to the tibial nerve, which helps regulate bladder activity.

E. Coli Outbreak: Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention
The United States is currently facing an E. coli outbreak linked to contaminated food. This situation marks the risks associated with E. coli, a common bacterium found in various environments. While most strains are harmless and aid digestion, some can cause severe illness.
About E. coli
E. coli, or Escherichia coli, is a bacterium that resides in the intestines of humans and animals. Most strains are harmless. However, a few strains produce Shiga toxin, leading to serious health issues. These strains can cause infections even with small amounts ingested.
Types of Infections
E. coli infections can manifest in several ways: Gastrointestinal Symptoms: Watery diarrhoea, stomach pain, and cramps are common. Severe cases can lead to bloody diarrhoea due to damage to the intestinal lining.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): E. coli can migrate from the gut to the urinary tract, causing pelvic pain and a burning sensation during urination.
Sepsis: If E. coli enters the bloodstream, it can trigger a severe inflammatory response, potentially leading to sepsis if not treated promptly.
Signs and Symptoms
Symptoms vary based on the type of infection:
Gastrointestinal Infection: Runny stomach, abdominal cramps, loss of appetite, and low fever.
UTI: Frequent urge to urinate, cloudy or foul-smelling urine, and pelvic pain.
Symptoms can appear within hours to ten days after exposure.
Transmission Routes
coli can be contracted through various means:
1. Contaminated Food: Eating undercooked or raw foods, especially unwashed salads.
Contaminated Water: Natural water sources and swimming pools can be infected by faecal matter from animals and people.
3. Surface Contact: Sharing objects or surfaces with an infected person can spread the bacteria.
Poor Hygiene: Inadequate bathroom hygiene can lead to E. coli entering the urinary tract. Proper handwashing and bathroom cleanliness are essential.
Risk Factors
While anyone can contract E. coli, certain groups are more vulnerable:
Children and Elderly: Young children and adults over 60 are at higher risk.
Immunocompromised Individuals: Those with weakened immune systems or on immuno-suppressant medications are more susceptible.
Stomach Acid Levels: Low stomach acid can increase vulnerability. Medications that reduce stomach acid may also heighten risk.
Treatment Options
E. coli infections are treatable, primarily with antibiotics. However, some strains have developed resistance due to antibiotic overuse. A sensitivity test can determine the most effective antibiotics for treatment. Caution is advised regarding antibiotic use for other health conditions to prevent resistance.
Prevention Tips
To reduce the risk of E. coli infection:
Cook food thoroughly and wash vegetables properly.
Drink clean, treated water.
Maintain proper hygiene, especially after using the bathroom.
Regularly disinfect surfaces that may come into contact with fecal matter.
Staying informed and practicing good hygiene can reduce the risk of E. coli infections.

Pediatric Urology: Understanding Urological Issues in Children
Tumblr media
When we think about urological problems, we often associate them with adults. However, children can also experience a range of urological issues that require specialized care. Pediatric urology is a subspecialty of urology that focuses on diagnosing and treating urinary tract and genital problems in children, from newborns to adolescents. This blog post is curated by our expert specialists at SIDS hospital, considered as one of the best urologists in Surat, to explain common urological issues in children, their symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options.
Common Pediatric Urological Conditions
Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR)
VUR is a condition where urine flows backward from the bladder into the ureters and sometimes to the kidneys. This can lead to urinary tract infections (UTIs) and potential kidney damage if left untreated.
Symptoms:
● Recurrent UTIs
● Fever
● Abdominal or back pain
● Bedwetting beyond the typical age
Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnosis often involves ultrasound, voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG), or nuclear medicine scans. Treatment may include antibiotics to prevent infections, and in severe cases, surgical correction.
Hypospadias
This congenital condition occurs when the opening of the urethra is not at the tip of the penis but on the underside.
Symptoms:
● Abnormal urine stream
● Curvature of the penis (chordee)
● Potential difficulty with sexual function later in life
Diagnosis and Treatment: Hypospadias is usually diagnosed during physical examination at birth or in early childhood or during a consultation with a doctor at the best hospital in Surat. Treatment typically involves surgical repair, often performed between 6–18 months of age.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
While UTIs can affect anyone, they’re particularly common in children, especially girls.
Symptoms:
● Burning sensation during urination
● Frequent urination
● Abdominal pain
● Fever
● Cloudy or strong-smelling urine
Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnosis is made through urinalysis and urine culture. Treatment usually involves antibiotics, and further investigation at the best urology hospital in Surat, like SIDS Hospital, may be needed if UTIs are recurrent.
Undescended Testicles
This condition occurs when one or both testicles fail to descend into the scrotum before birth or within the first year of life.
Symptoms:
● Empty or partially empty scrotum
● Potential fertility issues later in life if left untreated
Diagnosis and Treatment: Physical examination is usually sufficient for diagnosis. Treatment often involves hormonal therapy or surgical intervention (orchiopexy) advised by the best urologists in Surat to bring the testicle into the scrotum.
Nocturnal Enuresis (Bedwetting)
While common in young children, persistent bedwetting beyond age 5–6 may indicate an underlying urological issue.
Symptoms:
● Involuntary urination during sleep
● Daytime urinary urgency or frequency
Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnosis involves a thorough medical history and potentially urinalysis or ultrasound. Treatment may include behavioral modifications, bedwetting alarms, or medications in some cases.
Posterior Urethral Valves (PUV)
This is a congenital condition where extra flaps of tissue in the urethra obstruct urine flow. It only affects male infants.
Symptoms:
● Weak urine stream
● Urinary tract infections
● Abdominal distension
● Failure to thrive
Diagnosis and Treatment: PUV is often diagnosed prenatally through ultrasound. After birth, a voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) confirms the diagnosis. Treatment usually involves surgical removal of the valves.
Diagnosis in Pediatric Urology
Diagnosing urological issues in children can be challenging, as young patients may not be able to articulate their symptoms clearly. Pediatric urologists at the best hospital in Surat use a combination of methods:
Physical examination
Medical history
Urinalysis and blood tests
Imaging studies (ultrasound, X-rays, CT scans)
Specialized tests like urodynamics or cystoscopy
The choice of diagnostic tools depends on the suspected condition and the child’s age.
Treatment Approaches
Treatment in pediatric urology aims to resolve the immediate issue while considering the child’s long-term health and development. Options may include:
Medications: Antibiotics for infections, hormonal treatments for certain conditions.
Behavioral modifications: Especially useful for conditions like nocturnal enuresis.
Surgery: For structural abnormalities or severe cases that don’t respond to conservative treatment.
Minimally invasive procedures: Endoscopic or laparoscopic surgeries that reduce recovery time and complications.
The Importance of Specialized Care
Pediatric urology requires a specialized approach. Children’s bodies are still developing, and treatments must account for future growth and development. Moreover, psychological aspects are crucial — urological issues can be embarrassing for children, affecting their self-esteem and social interactions.
Pediatric urologists are trained not only in the medical aspects of care but also in communicating with children and parents, creating a comfortable environment for discussion and treatment.
Prevention and Early Detection
While some urological conditions are congenital and can’t be prevented, others can be mitigated through good hygiene practices and early detection. Regular check-ups at the best hospital in Surat, especially during infancy and early childhood, can help identify issues before they become severe.
Parents should be aware of signs that might indicate urological problems, such as changes in urination patterns, abdominal pain, or recurrent fevers without apparent cause.

5 Common Conditions To See Pediatric Urologist
Tumblr media
Nowadays, urological problems not only affect adults but also in children. These issues include kidney, bladder, urinary system, and genitalia. Diagnosing and treating the symptoms of urological disorders is challenging when your child is affected. However, visiting a pediatric urologist in Siliguri for your child is important to cure the issues related to the genital organs and urinary system in newborns, children, and teenagers.
The Hydronephrosis
Urine buildup in the kidney causes hydronephrosis, one of the most prevalent urological disorders in children. Kidney enlargement or edema may result from it. Fetal ultrasounds conducted during pregnancy are usually used to detect it.
A pediatric urologist can identify it and then carefully monitor it to decide the best course of therapy, which may include surgery or antibiotics in more severe instances.
Tract Infection In The Urine
Children are susceptible to urinary tract infections, just as adults are (UTI). Additionally, it's critical to treat UTIs promptly, just as with adults. A child may have structural abnormalities in the kidneys or bladder if they have recurrent UTIs or a fever along with their infection.
A pediatric urologist can identify the underlying causes of urological disorders and suggest suitable therapy, including surgery, to stop the progression of the ailment.
Low Body Temperature
The inadequate development of the urethra in male infants is known as hypospadias. When this happens, the urethra's opening, which is where the pee leaves the body, may be located further back or on the bottom of the penis instead of the tip.
This may be fixed in early childhood or later in life, depending on the particular circumstances around the kid. It is essential to carefully monitor this situation with a pediatric urologist to guarantee that the treatment is performed at the optimal moment for the growth and Health of the child's urology.
Bladder Neurogenic
Neurogenic bladders in children with spinal cord injuries may alter the way the bladder holds and releases pee. From birth, children with this illness should be continuously watched by a pediatric urologist to assist in assessing and optimizing bladder control and avoid further urinary tract problems.
Spina Bifida
A neural tube abnormality in which, during fetal development, the tissue around the spinal cord fails to seal correctly. Depending on the history and previous examination, the doctor may arrange further imaging to make your child's care easier.
Children's Health is the only program in the region that provides bladder-imaging studies, such as ultrasound cystograms, fluoroscopic cystograms, and the whole range of imaging modalities used by a pediatric urologist in Siliguri.
Since ultrasound doesn't use radiation, you may safely remain with your kid throughout the cystogram, which might make them feel more at ease. The child life experts who are skilled in calming children's anxieties throughout diagnostic procedures can help you with it.

Childhood Illnesses- 10 Common diseases and The Treatments. Are your child?
Childhood illnesses are very sensitive. Every child should receive quality medical care. It is every parent’s responsibility to be better informed about some of the most valid and recent treatment guidelines, making sure your child receives the best possible care.
The following information from the American Academy of Pediatrics summarizes some of the most common childhood illnesses together with their approved treatments. The information discussed here is based on the best scientific evidence and practice.
For example, if your child has a chronic medical condition or an allergy, your pediatrician may give you different recommendations. Your pediatrician will share these variations in treatment with you. If you have any questions about proper care for your child, discuss these with your pediatrician.
1- Sore Throat (Among common Childhood Illnesses)
Children develop sore throats, which are very sore. However, a viral cause of a sore throat does not need antibiotics. In those cases, no special medicines are necessary, and your child should recover in seven to ten days. In other cases, a sore throat is caused by streptococcal infection, a condition referred to as strep throat.
If strep is to be confirmed with absolute certainty, it can only be done with some form of test. It cannot be diagnosed based on observation alone- although your child may have a sore throat; a lab test, or in-office rapid strep test, will need to be administered to confirm the condition-it only takes a fast swabbing of the throat. If your child tests positive for strep, your pediatrician will prescribe an antibiotic. Your child must complete a full course of antibiotics, as prescribed, even if symptoms improve or resolve. Steroid medicines, such as prednisone, are not recommended in a large majority of cases as a treatment for sore throats. Babies and toddlers rarely develop strep throat, although their chances of becoming infected by streptococcus are higher if they attend childcare or have an older sibling suffering from the illness. Although strep is primarily spread by coughs and sneezes, your child can also contract it by touching a toy that an infected child has used.
2- Ear Pain (One of the Childhood Illnesses)
Ear pain is very common in children, and the cause can be many: from infection of the middle ear (otitis media), to the swimmer’s ear (infection of the skin in the ear canal), to pressure stemming from a cold or sinus infection; even hurtful teeth can radiate pain up the jaw to the ear.
Tumblr media
Amoxicillin is the first-line antibiotic in the treatment of middle ear infections except for patients with penicillin allergy or chronic or recurrent infection.
Most actual ear infections are brought on by viruses and don’t need antibiotics. If your pediatrician thinks your child’s ear infection might be due to a virus, he or she will talk to you about the best ways to help end your child’s ear pain until the virus works its way out of their body.
3- Urinary Tract Infection (Major Childhood Illnesses)
A bladder infection or urinary tract infection, UTI, is when the bacteria accumulate within the urinary tract and cause infections. You can diagnose UTIs in children from infancy into their teenage years and eventually well into adulthood. The symptoms of a UTI include pain while urinating or burning pain while urinating, frequent urination or sudden urgency to urinate, bedwetting by a potty-trained child, or having accidents, abdominal pain, or side or back pain. The doctor will require a urine sample to test for the presence of a UTI before deciding on the treatment. Your doctor may modify the treatment based on what bacteria is present in your child’s urine.
4- Skin Infection (Very common Childhood Illnesses)
A skin test usually becomes necessary in the case of most children with a skin infection to define the best treatment. Therefore, inform your doctor if your child has a history of MRSA, staph infection, or other resistant bacteria or if he or she has been exposed to other family members or contacts with resistant bacteria.
5- Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is a common complaint in infants and young children during the cold and flu season. “Wheezing” is often what your doctor will hear when she listens to your child’s breath. Bronchiolitis mostly results from a viral cause, for which the patient does not need antibiotics. Most of the treatment recommendations are given to make your child comfortable with close follow-up for any difficulty in breathing, eating, or dehydration. Medications to patients suffering from asthma like albuterol or steroids are not used for most infants and children suffering from bronchiolitis. Other treatment is necessary in children born prematurely or those with other conditions.
6- Bronchitis
This is known as chronic bronchitis. This is a common infection of the larger, more central airways in the lung and tends to be more common in adults. Often the term “bronchitis” is used to describe a chest virus that does not need antibiotics.
7- Common Cold (Among simple Childhood Illnesses)
Colds are viral infections of the upper respiratory tract. Many young children, especially in child care, can get 6 to 8 colds per year. Symptoms of a cold—such as runny nose, congestion, and cough—can last as long as ten days. Green mucus in the nose doesn’t necessarily mean antibiotics are required it’s never needed for a cold, however, if you suspect there’s a sinus infection, your pediatrician will use your child’s symptoms and a physical exam to decide on the best antibiotic treatment.
8- Pain
Tumblr media
Acetaminophen or ibuprofen could be the best pain relievers for children. Recommend it to your pediatrician, though because its dose should be according to your child’s weight. Narcotic pain medications certainly should not be used in children with common injuries or complaints such as sprained ankles, ear pain, or sore throats. Codeine should never be used on children. It has been associated with severe respiratory problems and even death in children.
9- Cough (Common Childhood Illnesses)
In the main, coughing is generally considered due to viruses and not a condition warranting the administration of antibiotics.
Cough medicines are not to be administered to children 4 years of age and younger except for children 4 to 6 years of age unless your doctor orders. Research has continuously revealed that cough medicines are ineffective in children with an age below 4 and that some can cause severe side effects. Medications that contain narcotics, such as codeine, should never be given to children.
10- Bacterial sinusitis
Sinusitis is suspected when cold-like symptoms like nasal discharge, daytime cough, or both last more than ten days without improvement. If this condition also has a thick yellow nasal discharge and the fever persists for at least 3 or 4 consecutive days, then antibiotics might be necessary.
If the signs and symptoms get worse:
Sometimes, what appears to be a relatively minor viral or bacterial infection will spread and worsen. Discuss your child’s illness with the pediatrician if it gets worse, if you think it is worsening, does not get better in a few days, or if you have new concerns and new symptoms that could be emerging. If the treatment for your child’s illness has failed or your child is developing complications, your pediatrician may prescribe a new treatment.
Need more information or Have Questions?
Tumblr media
Conclusion
In a nutshell, childhood illnesses are, therefore of paramount importance for parents and caregivers to know them well to take good care of their children. The common childhood illnesses include such symptoms as the common cold, ear infections, strep throat, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It may lead to full-fledged symptoms of childhood illnesses if the problem occurs in any of the mentioned areas above. Early recognition makes it possible to act promptly, very crucial for proper treatment and cure. The prevention of such diseases is a concern in most families. Detailed information regarding how to prevent childhood illnesses will reduce the risk of infection through certain key practices that include good hygiene practices, regular hand washing, and avoiding close contact with those infected. Vaccinations also play a very significant role in preventing serious childhood diseases by providing children with immunity against infections that may cause serious complications.
Also, leading a healthy life assists in building up immunity of a child. Bringing encouragement for well-balanced dieting rich in fruits and vegetables, ample sleep, and enhanced physical activities throughout the day can better the general health, with a stronger immune system against most diseases.
Knowing the various kinds of childhood diseases, their symptoms, and ways of preventing them aids a parent in protecting his child’s health. Routine checkup by health care providers also allows for monitoring of children’s development. This will in turn help address any health issues at an early stage. In the short term, therefore, a culture of awareness and prevention would be empowered to know the best practices on how to tackle the problems with childhood diseases while enabling a healthy future for their children.
